Anatomy of the shoulder
Injuries to the shoulder occur frequently, ranging from soft tissue injuries to dislocations and fractures. Soft tissue injuries to muscles, tendons and ligaments are more common.
Soft tissue shoulder injuries are often caused by athletic activities that involve excessive, repetitive overhead motion such as swimming, tennis, pitching, and weightlifting. Injuries can also occur during everyday activities such washing walls, hanging curtains, and gardening. Dislocations and fractures can result from sports injuries, falls and road traffic accidents.
